Roles and approvals

Skaftor's built-in roles, what each can approve, where approvals happen, and how project-level roles work.

Every member has a role. The role decides which workflow steps they can approve and what they can change.

Built-in roles

  • Admin — everything, including approving any step and managing settings.
  • Product Manager — upload docs, connect tools, generate, edit and approve requirements.
  • Tech Lead — edit and approve designs, create and assign work orders, approve pull requests and release PRs.
  • Developer — generate code, commit and open pull requests.
  • QA — review test cases and approve QA.
  • DevOps — approve and run deployments, production releases and security reviews.
  • Designer — upload docs and connect tools.
  • Viewer — read-only.

A person can have a different role on a specific project. Manage roles in Settings › "Members & roles" — invite teammates, import them from Google Workspace, Okta, Microsoft Entra or a CSV, and approve pending invitations.

Where approvals happen

  • The Inbox — "Waiting on your approval", with "Approve" and "Request changes" inline.
  • Home — the "Needs your attention" card.
  • The feature or work-order page — the next-step card.
If no one on a project can approve a step, Home shows a blocker such as "<repo> needs Tech Lead" — invite someone with that role or give it to a member.
